Photograph - Couple looking at pictures Geer is a community-owned, locally operated, non-profit corporation serving the Northwest Corner of Connecticut for over thirty-five years.  Nestled on seventy acres in the Southern Berkshire Hills and located in historic Canaan, Connecticut, it offers a variety of settings to fulfill its mission - to nurture the minds, bodies and spirits of all generations.

Geer Staff are a family amongst themselves, and they bring this sense of family into their work.  Many have worked at Geer for more than a decade.  Working with personal physicians, dentists and other health care professionals, Geer's Medical Director, Dr. Joel Danisi, coordinates all clinical care.

All of Geer's Board of Directors reside locally and are dedicated to the Geer mission.  Most of the Board have been part of the Geer community for many years.

Included on the seventy acres of the Geer Campus are six separate living arrangements.  Geer Village, which provides three different living residential options, Beckley House, Geer Nursing and Rehabilitation Center and Geer Adult Day Center.

The newest building is Geer Village, completed in May 2002, a 118-unit retirement community, which provides three separate residential communities:  Independent Living Apartments, Assisted Living Apartments and Suites in Gardenside Lodge for the Memory Impaired.   The Northwest Connecticut YMCA, Channel 112 Cable Television studio and the Regional Community Center are all located within Geer Village.  They provide unique life style enhancements to Geer Village residents.

Beckley House, completed in 2001 on the site of the old Geer Hospital, offers 24 apartments for limited income/elderly residents.

Geer Nursing and Rehabilitation Center is a 120-bed nursing home, along with facilities to provide physical and other therapies on an in or outpatient basis.

Geer Adult Day Center completes the residential component of the community on the Geer Campus.

Culture

Geer has learned that the most important guarantor of our future is the shared mission, faith, and spirit of the individuals who work at Geer. In short, our culture; and, as a result, we believe that hiring and training are the most important things we do.  We seek to employ not just the most competent professionals that can be found, but, in particular, prospective team members and colleagues who have positive attitudes and generous spirits -- people who will share our faith, mission, and spirit, and help us pass them on to our successors.
