Long Term Care at Geer Nursing
Geer Nursing and Rehabilitation, a 120-bed skilled care nursing facility, was designed and operates today to provide each patient with an appropriate balance of professional services and personal attention. Located at the southern end of the Geer campus, it provides its residents with his or her own special interests and needs. Some of its residents are frail or impaired and require individual care; others are more active and need encouragement to do as much as they can. A key factor in the Geer philosophy is to ensure that its residents, to the fullest extent possible, are physically and emotionally involved in activities at Geer Nursing, on the Geer Campus or in neighboring communities.

The Physical Therapy staff provides comprehensive care for residents and outpatients who require acute and chronic therapy for orthopedic or neurological disorders, respiratory illnesses, or pain management to name a few. Working in
harmony with the referring physician whenever necessary, all treatments are prescribed by the attending physician and individualized to the patient's needs. In determining each patient's care plan, a multi-disciplinary team approach is used. Geer's Departments of Rehabilitation, Nursing, Therapeutic Recreation and Social Service combine their expertise in helping the patient to become as independent as possible.
The Occupational Therapy Staff provides service to patients who have physical, developmental, emotional and/or cognitive deficits. An assessment and analysis of personal goals and demand are evaluated and become the basis for an individualized treatment program.
Geer's Speech Pathologist Therapist works closely with patients' speech, hearing and swallowing difficulties as well as helps patients conquer problems relating
to cognitive abilities, memory and language comprehension.
Hospice is a concept of health care that provides for the physical, emotional and spiritual needs of those living with a life-limiting illness. It is there to support the families as well. The goal of hospice is to ease a patient's passage from life by alleviating pain and controlling symptoms. Hospice care is a choice a patient can make; patients may choose to withdraw from the hospice plan of care at any time to see other medical treatments. Many hospice patients are covered by Medicare or Medicaid.
