Covid-19 update 10/12/2020

October 12, 2020

To Our Staff, Residents and Family Members:

We need to inform you of one staff member that tested positive for Covid-19 at Geer Lodge. A staff member that initially tested negative became symptomatic over the weekend and subsequently tested positive for Covid-19. We are confident that this staff member worked only in their assigned area, limiting risk of exposure to the Gardenside unit at The Lodge. As we continue to restrict staff access between buildings, there is an extremely low risk of transmission to Geer Nursing.

The current residents at both facilities remain Covid-19 free. All Geer staff practice strict infection control procedures while working. While we must proceed with the positive Covid-19 protocols, which include contact tracing, we want to assure everyone that we are doing our best to keep everyone safe. Under the guidance of the Torrington Area Health District and State of Connecticut Epidemiology, we will now need to resume weekly Covid-19 testing for all residents and staff at the Geer Lodge assisted living building.

Lodge Resident testing will start on Wednesday this week 10/14/20 and conclude the week of 10/28/20 if all staff and residents remain negative. Any positive results will extend testing until we can produce 100% negative results for a minimum period of 14 days.

As we address this new positive case, we feel it is prudent to delay the implementation of the new visitation plan at The Lodge until we have the results of our next round of staff and resident testing. Testing should be completed in 14 days. The new visitation plan for Geer Nursing will continue as planned. We understand that connecting with family members is incredibly important to our residents and you are encouraged to continue to connect virtually or through outside socially distanced visits. We will keep everyone informed as we move forward. Please do not hesitate to reach out to us if you have any questions or concerns.
