Covid-19 Update 12/12/2020
December 12, 2020
To Our Staff, Residents and Family Members:
We need to inform you of one Geer Nursing and Rehab resident that tested positive for COVID-19, at an appointment this week using a saliva PCR test, as the results were reported today. During our routine facility testing this week when a nasal PCR test was conducted, the day after the saliva PCR test, the results came back negative. Until false positivity can be ruled out, we will continue to treat this case as a true positive.
We want to assure you that individual has been isolated on our observation unit for the duration of the stay except for medical appointments and that all necessary precautions have been maintained. In our last update we notified you that a non-clinical staff member had tested positive while out on quarantine after being exposed in the community. We are confident this resident case is unrelated to the staff member’s case.
We have been in contact with Torrington Area Health Department and CT DPH. As this resident remains asymptomatic and there is inconsistency in test results both the State of CT Epidemiologist and our Medical Director feel there is a chance of false positivity.
All staff at Geer Nursing were last tested on December 8th and all results have come back negative. This week we also began weekly testing of our residents; this was completed yesterday, and results are still pending. All residents will continue to be tested weekly on Mondays and our staff will be tested on Tuesdays. If your loved one should test positive or become symptomatic of Covid-19 we will notify you immediately. We are doing everything we can to ensure that we stop the spread of COVID-19 within Geer Nursing, including staying in very close communication with local and state health experts to ensure that we are taking all the appropriate steps. Please continue to check our blog at www.geercares.org for updates.
As we address this new positive case, we must continue to adhere to CMS and CDC guidelines and limit in-person visitation. We will continue to offer virtual and window visits on a scheduled basis through our recreation department. To schedule a visit, please contact Jill Simmons, Recreation Director at 860-824-3831 or email@example.com. We understand that connecting with family members is incredibly important to our residents, and you are encouraged to continue to connect virtually. We will keep everyone informed as we move forward. Please do not hesitate to reach out to us if you have any questions or concerns.
We need your help in battling COVID-19. Please visit the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) website to learn how you can help prevent the spread in our community at https://portal.ct.gov/Coronavirus.
