Covid-19 Update 12/18/2020
To Geer Nursing & Rehab Center, Residents and Family Members,
We have no changes to our Covid-19 status to report this week but some updates and reminders to share with you.
In last week’s letter we informed you of one Geer Nursing and Rehab resident that tested positive for COVID-19, at an appointment using a saliva PCR test. Every subsequent test has been negative, and we strongly suspect it was a false positive. Regardless this individual has been isolated and treated as a true positive. We are in regular contact with Torrington Area Health Department and the State of CT, Department of Public Health and they agree with our course of action.
We have about 50% of the results from this week’s staff tests and all are negative. We do not have the majority of resident’s test results back yet, but there are no reports of symptoms. All residents will continue to be tested every Monday through the week of December 28th, unless there is a change. If your loved one should test positive or become symptomatic of Covid-19 we will notify you immediately. We are doing everything we can to ensure that we keep COVID-19 out of Geer Nursing.
We have just been notified that we should start planning for our staff and residents to begin receiving vaccinations the week of January 4, 2021. You should have received a mailing earlier this week with some pertinent information including two copies of the same vaccine consent form. Please be sure to sign both forms and send back in the return envelope as soon as possible if you wish for your loved one to be vaccinated. If you have not received that mailing, please let us know so we can make sure you have the information. You can also download the form here and return them via email to Melissa Foley at firstname.lastname@example.org or fax to (860) 824-3994, and we will copy it to have the second one.
We will continue to offer virtual and window visits on a scheduled basis through our recreation department. To schedule a visit, please contact Jill Simmons, Recreation Director at 860-824-3831 or email@example.com. If all test results remain negative through the week of December 28th, we anticipate being able to resume in person visits the week of January 4th.
We need your help in battling COVID-19. Please visit the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) website to learn how you can help prevent the spread in our community at https://portal.ct.gov/Coronavirus.
