ALL LODGE VISITATION IS ON HOLD

October 8, 2020

Geer Campus Visitation Update

The slow and steady process of re-opening continues. CMS (Medicare) recently distributed national guidance, directions, and limitations on visitation protocol. Last week, The State of Connecticut also rescinded their own restrictions in favor of following the federal government’s guidance. What does this mean for the Geer campus?

We are still under direction to limit the number and location of visitors and enforce all infection control practices. This includes COVID-19 symptom/exposure screening before visiting, hand hygiene, social distancing, and mask use. Normal, any-time-of-the-day through-the-whole-building visitation has not resumed, though some news outlets seemed to present it that way. It does, however, mean that you do not have to endure the elements outside for your visit, unless that is your choice.

We have set up areas in our dining rooms at both Geer Nursing and Geer Lodge for visits that are isolated from resident care areas. To assure that everyone has an opportunity for visits, we are continuing to schedule visits and have expanded that schedule.

Please continue to call the appropriate recreation department to schedule a visit with your loved one:

  • Visitors at The Lodge should be scheduled through The Lodge Recreation Department, by calling Tina McGarry, Recreation Manager, at 860-824-2608, or by emailing tmcgarry@geercares.org
  • Visitors for Geer Nursing should contact Jill Simmons, Recreation Director, at 860-824-3831 or by emailing jasimmons@geercares.org

2020-10-08 Lodge Indoor Visitation Procedure

Should our visitation policy change and become either more permissive or more restrictive, we will be sure to let you know. This is one more step on the way to normal. However, and now more than ever, we must all take every precaution to ensure the safety of your loved ones and each other. COVID-19 positivity rates are starting to climb in areas like New London county, and long-term care facilities have started to see new outbreaks. If the positivity rate in our area starts to increase, we may have to further restrict visitations again.

Please help us to prevent this by continuing to practice good infection control in your home lives. Please visit The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) website to learn how you can help prevent the spread in our community. https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/prevent-getting-sick/prevention.html

Please contact Geer’s Infection Preventionist, Melissa Foley, if you have any questions unrelated to visitation at 860-824-3861 or e-mail us at coronavirusquestions@geercares.org.

Sincerely,
