Nursing Center Covid Update 04/01/2021
To Our Staff, Residents and Family Members:
We need to inform you that two more residents have tested positive for Covid-19 at Geer Nursing and Rehab. Torrington Area Health District, State of Connecticut Epidemiology office and the Department of Public Health have all been notified. We will continue to follow all recommendations these agencies have to offer so we can stop the spread of Covid-19 and get back to our goal of reopening to visitors. All staff results from this week’s first round of testing were negative. Residents and staff will remain on twice per week testing until further notice.
All Geer staff practice strict infection control procedures while working. While we must proceed with the positive Covid- 19 protocols, which include contact tracing, we want to assure everyone that we are doing our best to keep everyone safe. Under the guidance of the Torrington Area Health District and the State of Connecticut Epidemiology office, we conducted another full round of resident testing to determine the scope of anymore spread. If your loved one should test positive or become symptomatic of Covid-19 we will notify you immediately. We are doing everything we can to ensure that we stop the spread of COVID-19 within Geer Nursing, including staying in very close communication with local and state health experts to ensure that we are taking all the appropriate steps.
Please keep in mind that over 95% of our residents and over 85% of staff have received both doses of the vaccine at the nursing home. We remain confident that most of our staff and residents are fully protected. We will continue with the positive/exposed unit so we can isolate positive/exposed residents from the rest of the building. Residents and staff will have their second round of testing on Thursday or Friday.
As we address this outbreak, we must adhere to the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) and Center for Disease Control (CDC) guidelines and limit in-person visitation. We will continue to offer virtual and window visits on a scheduled basis through our recreation department. To schedule a visit, please contact Jill Simmons, Recreation Director at 860-824-3831 or email@example.com. We understand that connecting with family members is incredibly important to our residents, and you are encouraged to continue to connect virtually. We will keep everyone informed as we move forward. Please do not hesitate to reach out if you have any questions or concerns.
