Nursing Covid-19 Notice 09/07/2021

To Our Staff, Residents and Family Members:

We need to inform you that one staff member tested positive for Covid-19 at Geer Nursing and Rehab. This staff member had a known exposure in the community and has been quarantined at home since last Thursday.

While we must proceed with the positive Covid-19 prevention protocols, which include contact tracing, we want to assure everyone that we are doing our best to keep everyone safe. Under the guidance of the Torrington Area Health District and the State of Connecticut Epidemiology office, we will conduct a full round of resident and staff testing to determine if there has been any spread. Please keep in mind that over 95% of our staff and residents are fully vaccinated.

We have begun testing of all resident and staff and will inform you of any additional cases, and expect to have test results in the next few days. If your loved one should test positive or become symptomatic of Covid-19 we will notify you immediately. We are doing everything we can to ensure that we stop the spread of Covid-19 within Geer Nursing, including staying in very close communication with local and state health experts to ensure that we are taking all the appropriate steps.

As we address this case, all visits are on hold while the initial test results are pending. For those receiving compassionate care visits, you must contact Cady Bloodgood or Melissa Foley to review the precautions. We will continue to offer virtual and window visits on a scheduled basis through our recreation department. To schedule a visit, please contact Jill Simmons, Recreation Director at 860-824-3831 or We understand that connecting with family members is incredibly important to our residents, and you are encouraged to continue to connect virtually.

We will keep everyone informed as we move forward. Please do not hesitate to reach out if you have any questions or concerns.
