Nursing Covid-19 Update 12/28/2020

To Our Staff, Residents and Family Members:

We are writing with updates from last week’s test results. Yesterday we received results from testing that was done on Tuesday 12/22/20 and two staff members have tested positive for Covid-19. Both staff members subsequently tested negative with antigen tests that were conducted on Thursday 12/24/20. Neither staff member has any symptoms and are now quarantined per CDC and DPH guidelines for 10 days from the date they tested positive. Contact tracing has been completed and any close contacts have been notified and quarantined. The staff members that tested positive are clinical staff who have provided direct care.

However, we want to assure you that all necessary precautions have been maintained and continue to be maintained to prevent any spread of the virus to other residents or staff. Our residents continue to be monitored closely for any signs or symptoms of Covid-19. All residents, unless contraindicated, are receiving vitamin C, zinc, and vitamin D supplements to help support their immune systems. If your loved one should test positive or become symptomatic of Covid-19 we will notify you immediately. We are doing everything we can to ensure that we prevent the spread of Covid-19 within Geer Nursing, including staying in very close communication with local and state health experts to ensure that we are taking all the appropriate steps.

If you have not received consent forms or are unable to obtain the electronic forms, please contact us. You can download the forms here return them via email to Melissa Foley at coronavirusquestions@geercares.org or fax to (860) 824-3994.

Testing: We will continue to take all necessary precautions after the vaccine is administered, including wearing personal protective equipment and conducting routine testing to ensure the safety of our Residents and Staff. Staff at Geer Nursing and Rehab will continue to be tested twice per week and Residents will be tested weekly.

Visitation: We will continue to offer virtual and window visits on a scheduled basis through our recreation department. To schedule a visit, please contact Jill Simmons, Recreation Director at 860-824-3831 or jasimmons@geercares.org. With new positive results we will have to delay starting in person visits until we can produce negative results for both residents and staff for a full 14 day period.

We need your help in battling COVID-19. Please visit the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) website to learn how you can help prevent the spread at https://portal.ct.gov/Coronavirus.
