Nursing Covid Update 11-16-2021

To Our Staff, Residents and Family Members:

We are relieved to report no new cases of Covid-19 have been identified since last Monday, 11/8/21. The positive case that was reported in the last update (11/12) turned out to be a false positive, confirmed after 2 negative PCR tests.  We are also happy to report only 3 active cases remain within the building. As stated in our previous updates this outbreak is contained within the nursing home, Geer Lodge remains unaffected. We continue to complete testing on our residents and staff bi-weekly.

Of the total 67 residents affected over the course of this outbreak, 56 are fully recovered and off isolation. While we must continue with Covid-19 prevention protocols, we want to assure everyone we are doing our best to keep residents and staff safe. We continue to monitor the situation closely and will provide updates for residents, staff, families, and community stakeholders as the situation changes. We encourage the community to reach out with questions.

Booster Vaccination Update:  Geer Nursing residents and staff will be eligible for the booster when we have gone two full weeks with no new positive cases. We are conducting vaccinations for flu this week.  If you have not returned your loved one’s consent form, please do so.

Visitation: Per new guidance from CMS, effective Wednesday, 11/17/21, visitation is now always allowed for all residents at all times. Restrictions on visits to residents must be lifted and education provided to residents and visitors on how to remain safe while here in the facility. Please contact Cady Bloodgood or Melissa Foley to review the new guidance and receive your education packet.

We ask that you consider holding off on your face-to-face visits until we can declare the covid outbreak officially resolved, hopefully next week. We will continue to offer virtual      and window visits on a scheduled basis through our recreation department for those who wish to continue remote visits. To schedule a visit, please contact Jill Simmons, Recreation Director at 860-824-3831 or  We understand that connecting with family members is incredibly important to our residents, and you are encouraged to continue to connect with your loved ones safely.
