Nursing Covid update 11-5-2021

To Our Staff, Residents and Family Members:

We want to provide you with an update on the current Covid outbreak within the nursing home. As stated in our previous updates, we continue to complete testing on our residents and staff bi-weekly. Despite seeing significant numbers of residents recover from Covid, testing has resulted in additional positive cases among fully vaccinated residents and staff members. Sadly, we have lost 6 residents with serious underlying health issues to Covid.

We are encouraged to see 49 staff and residents already recovered and coming off isolation. While we must continue with Covid-19 prevention protocols, we want to assure everyone we are doing our best to keep residents and staff safe. On Tuesday, November 2, 2021, representatives from the State of Connecticut’s Department of Epidemiology spent the day here at Geer reviewing our protocols and observing staff on the units. As of today, we have not received any report of concerns or violations.

We continue to monitor the situation closely and will provide updates for residents, staff, families, and community stakeholders as the situation changes. Geer Village Senior Community’s top priority is the health and safety of our residents and employees. We encourage the community to reach out with questions. If your loved one should test positive or become symptomatic of Covid-19, we will notify you immediately. We continue to provide access to the monoclonal antibody treatment to any resident that meets the criteria for treatment. If your loved one is sick, we will discuss the treatment options with you and their physician.

Booster Vaccination Update:  Geer Lodge Assisted Living staff and residents completed booster vaccine doses on November 2, 2021. Geer Nursing residents and staff eligible for the booster will be notified as to when and where they can receive their shots as the current outbreak subsides. We will also begin vaccinations for flu here at Geer nursing next week.  If you have not returned your loved one’s consent form, please do so. Flu consent form
