Learn how you can begin earning income while you train to become a Certified Nursing Assistant.

Option One: Academy of Medical Training Program

Full-Time Day time training. Completed within 4 weeks.

Start employment in an entry level position (32-40hrs/week):

  • $15/hr Food Service Aide or Resident Care Aide

 

After 4 weeks of successful employment, we will sponsor you to attend the Academy C.N.A. training program AND pay you for your time while you are learning.

Employee cost of training program = $300* can be paid by payroll deduction and reimbursable after licensure and 6 months of successful employment.

Training program details:

You will be paid $15/hour during your training program.

You will either be in the classroom or work as an aide for 40 hours/week for 3 weeks.

  • 2 full weeks of online training at Geer Nursing, supported by our Staff Development Nurse.
  • 2 full days of hands-on training at the Academy of Medical Training in Waterbury
  • 2 full days of clinical training at a location in Waterbury
  • 1 full day of work at Geer

 

After successful completion of the program, you can work as a C.N.A. immediately and will have 120 days to pass the test.

After you complete the program, (about a total of 7-8 weeks) you can be brought up to $17.50 per hour and eligible for shift differentials (range $2.25-$3.75/hr) for nights and weekends and pick up bonuses of $75/shift. Your hourly wage could easily be over $20/hr.

Option Two: Northwestern CT Community College C.N.A. Training Program

2 afternoons per week – Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3:30 pm to 8:30 pm

April class is full – call ASAP to save your spot in the next class!

Classes held in person at Geer Village Senior Community with an in-person instructor from Northwestern CT Community College. This includes your clinical experience and testing.

If current Geer employee you will be paid for your time to take the class, in addition to whatever hours you regularly work.

If you are not a current Geer employee, upon successful completion of the program you will be eligible for employment as a C.N.A. – including a $1,500 sign on bonus.

If you would like to start working in another capacity prior to completing the program, you are eligible to start working as a Resident Care Aide or a Food Service Aide. If you become employed by Geer during the program, you will be eligible to get paid while you train but not for the full sign on bonus at completion.
